BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FLORIDA – A cathedral music director with bonafide from the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, Colin MacKnight is a young artist whose star is definitely on the rise.
Not surprisingly, MacKnight has been selected as the 2023-24 Rising Star performer for the Advent Lutheran Church pipe organ concert series.
The resident of Little Rock Arkansas will be the featured performer in the free Rising Star pipe organ concert at 7550 North Wickham Road in Suntree on Sunday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m.
The 29-year-old MacKnight will play the A.E. Schlueter organ of 2,196 pipes during a program featuring works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, along with composers of the 19th and 20th Centuries.
The Rising Star received his musical education at the Juilliard School, America’s preeminent performing arts conservatory. At Juilliard, he studied organ performance with Paul Jacobs, ultimately earning his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees.
The American Guild of Organists dubbed him a “Rising Star” in 2016. Colin has also received the Fellow and Choirmaster Certifications from the AGO, receiving the prize for the top Choirmaster score.
A frequent competition prizewinner, Colin’s first prizes and scholarships include the 2019 Paris Music Competition. In 2019, he also was named one of The Diapason magazine’s “20 under 30,” an accolade reserved for supremely talented young organists.
Colin has held musical positions in several New York City churches and concertized in St. Patrick’s Cathedral and the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC, as well as the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
He now works full-time as the Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Little Rock, Arkansas, overseeing a vibrant music program with weekly choral evensongs, a concert series, and a chorister program.
Concert Series Coordinator for Advent Lutheran Church, Betty Jo Couch is pleased to name MacKnight as this season’s Rising Star.

The Advent Lutheran Church Concert Series features talented U.S. and international guest organists in performance on the church’s impressive A.E. Schlueter pipe organ.
