BE ALERT: Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Addresses TikTok Threats of Violence in Schools

SHERIFF IVEY: there is currently no evidence that there is any credibility to the nationwide threats that are trending

“The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, and our Brevard Public Schools are well aware of warnings trending on social media, regarding threats of violence that are to occur at schools throughout the country on Friday, December 17,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, our local, state and federal law enforcement partners, and our Brevard Public Schools are well aware of warnings trending on social media, regarding threats of violence that are to occur at schools throughout the country on Friday.

Please know that while we ALWAYS take every threat seriously and fully investigate each individual threat that is made, there is currently no evidence that there is any credibility to the nationwide threats that are trending on various social media posts.

While our team is always prepared to respond to any type of incident, we fully expect Friday to be a normal school day and students should be in attendance.

As such, we are asking our parents to discuss with their children the serious nature of making a school threat and the importance of understanding that threats to our schools are NEVER a “joke,” and they will not be treated lightly under any circumstance.

Any threat made will be investigated to the fullest extent so please discuss with our youth the consequences of such actions and ask them to help us keep everyone safe.

As I always say ”it takes a community to protect a community” so please help us spread the word that there is no credibility to these threats of violence and also ask our kids to help us keep our schools safe by staying focused on school work as we head into the Christmas Break.
