Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Earlier today, our agency proudly recognized Freedom 7 Elementary School student, Aadhira Guna, as the most recent recipient of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office “Great Kid” Award.
The “Sheriff’s Great Kid” Award was created by our agency to recognize those kids in our community that “do it right.”
Unfortunately, our Law Enforcement Officers and Teachers spend a lot of their time dealing with kids that don’t do it right, so our agency created the “Sheriff’s Great Kid” Award to highlight those who display character, volunteerism, academics, patriotism, and just all out great qualities.
Aadhira has been praised by her teachers at Freedom 7 Elementary as a kind, sweet, and outgoing student, as well as a great leader to all of her peers.
She was ultimately nominated for this award by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer, Corporal Kent Guttebo, after he read of her outstanding accomplishments in the school newsletter for her achievements in the recent Science Fair.
Cpl. Guttebo asked teachers more about Aadhira, a 5th grade student, after reading of her great success, where she not only finished 1st place in coding, but also went on to win Best of Show for the Computer Science Division and the Lockheed Martin Innovative Computer Scientist Award.
And to top it off, she is a state qualifier for the Future Problem Solvers in Computer Robotics.
Teachers told Cpl. Guttebo of Aadhira’s ambition to create and organize two fundraisers this year that helped earn money for class projects, which included making flyers to promote the fundraisers, where she raised over $500.
This right here is the perfect example of what this award is all about. Aadhira is a leader in so many ways, and it is clear that she will go on to make a great impact on the world.
Please join me in congratulating Aadhira for being a “Great Kid” and also in congratulating her parents who make certain that Aadhira is doing it right.
I would also like to thank the staff at Freedom 7 Elementary who support Aadhira, and BCSO Cpl. Kent Guttebo for submitting her for this well-deserved award.
