WATCH: BCSO Commander James “JJ” Woolsey signs off on the radio for the last time after almost 32 years of service with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout his career, he has always proven himself to be an outstanding asset to our agency and has served his community proudly.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Our agency this week wished a very happy retirement to longtime Brevard County Sheriff’s Office family member Commander James “JJ” Woolsey.
JJ has enjoyed an outstanding career with our agency and leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, valued public service and friendship.
Commander Woolsey was originally hired as a Deputy Sheriff by then-Sheriff Jake Miller on September 30, 1989, and assigned to our South Precinct. Since that time, JJ has served as a Deputy Sheriff at our then Central Precinct, Tact Unit, Agent, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major, and finally as Commander of our North Precinct.
In addition to his regular duties, JJ also served as a member of our BCSO S.W.A.T. Team for over 30 years, with the past 10 years serving as the S.W.A.T. Team Commander.
Throughout his career, JJ has always proven himself to be an outstanding asset to our agency and has served his community proudly.
He has received hundreds of Letters of Commendations, Unit Citations, Merit and Commendable Service Bars during his exemplary career and dedicated service. Through JJ’s professionalism, mentorship and leadership, many of our young Deputies and staff have developed and grown to become the future of our agency.
On a personal note, I first met and worked with JJ when we created and developed the G.A.M.E. O.V.E.R. Task Force that targets the worst criminals in the county. I am often heard giving JJ the greatest compliment you can get in our profession, “I would go through a door with him anytime and anywhere,” as he is a tremendous law enforcement officer.
JJ will be truly missed by me and our entire agency and I could not be happier for him on this amazing milestone in his life.
Please join me in congratulating JJ for his incredible efforts and commitment to our agency and the citizens of Brevard County and also in wishing him an enjoyable, fun-filled and well-deserved retirement. Congrats my friend on a job well done and we will take it from here!
