BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – We know it’s only October, but we’re gearing up for Thanksgiving with a special naming opportunity.

From now until October 14, we’re inviting you to join us for a “potluck” and bring your best casserole-inspired names for our three Osceola turkey chicks.

On September 9 and 10, we welcomed three turkey chicks to mom Giblet and dad Green Bean Casserole. These tiny fluffballs are the first of their species to hatch at the Zoo.

Giblet and her three younglings live in our Wild Florida loop, and they sometimes move between a habitat visible to the public and one behind the scenes for their safety right now.

Our small flock of turkeys has lived with us since September 2020, and although our females had laid eggs in the past, they had not produced any chicks until now.

Our tom (male) turkey, Green Bean Casserole, lives with hens (females) Giblet, Gravy and Cranberry.

These unique names came from the brain of Christen Carrillo, a Wild Florida keeper. It was also Christen’s idea to name the new chicks after their dad, Green Bean Casserole!

Serve us up your best casserole dish names in the survey below, and we’ll let our Wild Florida team choose their favorites! Keep an eye on our social media pages to see the winning names.
