Cocoa PAL Graduate, Rockledge High Student Dalyn Sims Honored with ‘Tag, You’re It’ Scholarship

Sims plans to study computer engineering at Bethune Cookman

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Athletic League graduate and 2020 PAL Boy of the Year for the State of Florida Dalyn Sims was honored at the State PAL Conference in Orlando on Sunday.

The State PAL honored Sims with the “Tag, You’re It,” scholarship.

It is a $1,000 scholarship to help Sims with his first year at Bethune Cookman University where he plans to earn a degree in computer engineering.

Sims has served in leadership positions with Cocoa PAL and continues to volunteer with the organization with community projects, coaching basketball, and being a role model and mentor to others.

He is actively involved in the youth ministry at his church, is a member of Top Teens of America and was chosen Mr. Top Teen 2019 for the group’s Cocoa chapter.

Sims is a 2021 Honor and Merit graduate of Rockledge High School with a 3.7 GPA.

“Since the age of 12, Dalyn has wholeheartedly committed himself to Cocoa PAL and we are so proud and happy to see him receive this scholarship,” said Delores McLaughlin, Executive Director of Cocoa PAL.

“We are so proud of this young man and all he has accomplished so far,” said Chief Evander Collier IV.

“He continues to stay committed to our local PAL program and is a mentor to so many young people. We need many more just like him and we wish him much success in his college career and beyond.”

Florida PAL is a law enforcement-based crime prevention program formed in 1983.

Florida PAL is the first statewide PAL Association in the country serving 5,000 youth annually through youth education, community service, athletic programs, outreach, and leadership programs. Cocoa PAL was formed in 2009 under McLaughlin.

It has helped hundreds of children since and currently has 93 youth enrolled in programs.
