oldest continually performing band on Space Coast

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – The Community Band of Brevard has cued up all the greatest hits in its repertoire and will present Audience Favorites on Sunday, June 5 at Merritt Island High School Auditorium.
The 3:00 PM concert will showcase a wide variety of works, ranging from traditional Sousa marches to well-known Broadway and movie themes.
Audience Favorites will include the “El Capitan” and “Liberty Bell” marches by John Philip Sousa, selections from An American in Paris and Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin, “Seventy-Six Trombones” by Meredith and Wilson, plus a suite of jazz favorites, film score classics and more. Audience Favorites is free with no ticket required and no reserved seating.
Concertgoers are strongly encouraged to wear face masks while in the auditorium (regardless of vaccination status), for the safety and health of patrons and musicians alike.
The oldest continually performing band on Florida’s Space Coast, the Community Band of Brevard is directed by former military bandleader, Robin Kessler.
Community Band of Brevard conductor, Robin Kessler, knows the concert will be another crowd-pleaser.
“This concert is definitely true to its title,” said Kessler.
“Every piece of music we’re playing is a genuine audience favorite! If you’re looking for something to lift your spirits, put a smile on your face and get you humming – this is it.”
In 1999, the John Philip Sousa Foundation awarded the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award to the Community Band of Brevard for “demonstrating particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years.”
