BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shulman will be inducted into the Florida College System Activities Association Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame during the Region VIII Tournament in Niceville this week.

Shulman becomes the eighth men’s basketball program member inducted into the Hall of Fame and the first since Tom Wasdin in 2002.

“It’s very surreal, I can’t believe it is happening. I am honored, I am humbled, I am grateful, and it is a testament to all of the players that have played here, the assistant coaches I have worked with,” Shulman said.

“All of our success brought us to this announcement today.”

Shulman is in his 13th season leading the Titans and has recorded 318 wins and been to the national championship tournament five times, finishing second in 2016-17 and third in 2017-18.

The Nashville, Tennessee native has been the conference coach of the year eight times, and the Titans have won at least a tie for the conference title the past ten seasons.

Shulman took over a program that had won seven games and had not been to the postseason in 11 straight seasons.

In his first season with the Titans, he won 18 games and qualified for the FCCAA state tournament by winning the Southern Conference Tournament championship.

And on Thursday afternoon, he will be on the sidelines in the Region VIII Tournament as the Titans open against Daytona State College. Eastern Florida State College comes into the tournament as the No. 7 seed and has won 21 games.

It marks the 13th straight season that Shulman’s teams have won at least 18 games, and the coach has never had a losing season with the Titans.

Shulman’s 318 wins have moved him past Don Smith and into second place all-time.

“Just to be mentioned in the same sentence as legendary Don Smith, who has done so much for Brevard Community College and Eastern Florida State College,” Shulman said.

“He is such a legendary coach and a Hall of Famer. He had such an incredible amount of success and had such an impact on so many players’ lives, I am just speechless.”

Jim Oler holds the program’s all-time wins record with 328 wins over 16 seasons.

Shulman’s Titans has averaged 25 wins per season in the past 13 seasons under Shulman as the Nashville, Tennessee native took over the program in 2010, which had not had a winning season in over a decade.

Jeremy Shulman: “I give a lot of the credit to coach (Associate Vice President of Athletics Jeff) Carr and President Richey. For coach Carr to take a chance on me when I had no college coaching experience and so many other great candidates, I am forever grateful to him for taking a chance on me and Dr. Richey for having such a sports-minded mentality, he has built athletics to where it is today.” (EFSC image)

“I came here as a young coach, but I knew it was going to be a long haul when I was hired, and I was honestly just trying to win one game at a time – it was a fairy tale to think we would be where we are today back then,” Shulman said.

“Without administration, a program has no chance of being successful.”
