BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team is in fifth place halfway through the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Newton, Kansas.

The Titans shot 294 as a team and are now in fifth place overall. Indian Hills Community College is leading the event, two strokes ahead of New Mexico Junior College.

“It was an awkward day,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said. “Tough start, made a good comeback in the middle of the round and hung around at the end. We will need to play better tomorrow to move up the leaderboard.”

Eastern Florida State College sophomore Robert Greninger shot a 2-under 70 in the second round and is tied for fifth place overall at 5-under. Greninger once again had a good back nine, shooting 3-under on the back nine and finished with five birdies and three bogeys in the round. Boncore is leading the tournament in scoring on par 3s, shooting 4-under.

Teammate Adam Vermut shot even par 72 highlighted by an eagle on No. 5, a 365-yard par 4. The freshman finished with the eagle, five birdies but seven bogeys in the round.

Freshman Nicholas Miller shot a 1-over par 73 after making birdies on No. 16 and No. 18 to finish the back nine 1-under. Teammate Brandon Boncore had a tough back nine and finished with a 79 while Murphy Allard shot an 86.

The Titans will tee off Thursday in the third round of the national tournament.
