FHP: Two Killed, Including 78-Year-Old Woman from Mims, in Vehicle Crash on U.S. 1 and Jefferson Street

ONE VICTIM LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION

The Florida Highway Patrol reported an 89-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were killed in a vehicle crash on Saturday, around 4:18 p.m., near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Jefferson Street.

BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – The Florida Highway Patrol reported an 89-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were killed in a vehicle crash on Saturday, around 4:18 p.m., near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Jefferson Street in Mims.

According to the FHP report, the yet-to-be-identified 89-year-old driver of a Chevrolet HHR and his 82-year-old passenger was stopped westbound on Jefferson Street at U.S. Highway 1.

A Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by a 78-year-old woman from Mims, was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway, approaching Jefferson Street in the outside lane, according to FHP, and the driver of the Chevrolet failed to yield from the stop sign while making a left turn to attempt to travel south on U.S. Highway. The front of the Grand Prix then crashed into the left front side of the HHR.

The FHP report said the driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Grand Prix was taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The passenger in the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported and the identities of the victims have not yet been released.
