Russell lead the SSC with 6.1 assists per game
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech junior guard Sesan Russell was been named to the All-SSC First Team and sophomore guard Sean Houpt was selected to the Newcomer Team, as the conference announced its all-league teams on Wednesday.
This is Russell’s first time earning All-SSC honors. He is the 20th Panther all-time to earn first-team honors, and first since Sam Daniel in 2016-17. The London, England product finished second in the league in scoring this season at 22.5 points per game while leading the SSC with 6.1 assists per game.
He was also second in three-pointers made (23) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.0), fifth in steals (1.9), three-point field goal % (.333), and minutes played (37.1). Additionally, he ranked sixth in the SSC in free-throw % (.786), eighth in rebounding (7.4), and ninth in field goal % (.422).
Russell scored in double-figures every game this season and at least 21 points in five games including a season-best 35 points in a win over Tampa in the first round of the SSC Tournament. He recorded two double-doubles during the eight games.
Russell was named the SSC Player of the Week twice this season and was a member of the SSC Tournament Team after averaging 24.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game over the first two rounds of the conference tournament.
He was the ninth Panther to earn All-Tournament honors and the first since Anthony Jackson in 2012.
Houpt becomes the eighth Panther to receive All-SSC Newcomer team honors and is the first since Jordan Majors in 2014-15. The Danville, Illinois native averaged 11.9 points per game, good for 16th in the SSC, during his first season donning the Crimson & Gray.
Houpt scored in double-digits in five of eight games, including a season-best 24 points in the win over Palm Beach Atlantic. He shot 38.1% from the field and ranked fourth in the SSC in free throw % (.875), making 18-21 from the charity stripe this season.
Additionally, Houpt ranked tied for 12th in the league in three-point field goals made per game (1.9).
All conference selections and individual award winners are determined by a vote of Sunshine State Conference head coaches with oversight and approval from member institution Athletic Directors.
