Panthers had five competitors in the 98-man field comprised of 41 schools

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s swimming team traveled to South Florida over the weekend to participate in the CSCAA Collegiate Open Water National Championship in Biscayne Bay on Sunday morning.
The Panthers had five competitors in the 98-man field comprised of 41 schools for the demanding 5K race. As a team, the Crimson and Grey recorded a 12th place finish in the national open conference meet.
David Armstrong was Tech’s top finisher, taking 46th place with a time of 59:55.05. He was the last competitor in the field to complete the event in under one hour.
John Fonnotto took 49th with a 1:00:06.26 finish. Freshmen Josh McLean and Gavin Lanka took 61st and 62nd respectively thanks to times that were separated by three hundredths of a second. George Jekov earned 65th with a 1:02:19.48 time.
The Panthers will be back in action on Saturday January 14th at the McCusker Pool Complex in Boca Raton for a Sunshine State Conference meet against Lynn. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 noon.
