BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Savannah Brennan of the Florida Tech women’s swimming team has been named the 2021-22 Sunshine State Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 

This is the third consecutive year she has received the award.

Voting for the award is conducted among the Athletic Directors, Senior Women Administrators, Athletic Communication Directors, and Faculty Athletic Representatives from the 11 SSC Member institutions.

Brennan became the first individual to earn the award three times. She remains the first swimmer and third Florida Tech student-athlete to be honored as SSC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year since conference administrators established the award in 1995-96. Previous Panthers to win the honor were: Kari Wanat (Volleyball – 1999-00) and Marina DeBiasi (Cross Country – 2017-18).

A native of Oviedo, Florida, Brennan earned her undergraduate degree in Genomics and Molecular Genetics and Biomedical Science with a minor in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in Spring 2021 and recently earned her master’s degree in Biotechnology while boasting a perfect 4.00-grade point in average.

Brennan has earned every CSCCAA Scholar All-American, CoSIDA Scholar All-American, SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, and Dean’s List award she has been eligible during her career.

In addition, Brennan was named the 2021-22 Florida Tech Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

This year, Brennan has served as a graduate researcher in biotechnology, spearheading the development of a fertilization project. She also remains an active member of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics.

Over her three-year stint as SSC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Brennan has held various important positions, including President of Florida Tech’s Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society chapter, Secretary of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic.

In the pool, Brennan has had a remarkable career with the Panthers, qualifying for the NCAA Championships for four consecutive years.

She became Florida Tech’s first All-American in program history with her outstanding performance at the NCAA Championships in 2022. Brennan earned All-American honors in the 1000 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, and the 400 IM.

This season, Brennan recorded nine individual wins and helped the Panthers to six relay victories while also breaking two of her own school records in the 500 Freestyle and 1000 Freestyle. She earned her third consecutive All-SSC honor becoming the first Florida Tech women’s swimmer to do so.

Brennan currently holds six school records in individual events and four relay records along with her teammates.
