CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – Gov. Ron DeSantis was in Clearwater on Thursday as he stood in support of workers and called for a special legislative session to ban vaccine mandates on workers in the state of Florida.

“Your right to earn a living should not be contingent upon COVID-19 shots,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Gov. DeSantis says he will call the Florida legislature back in November for the special session.

“We want to make sure that individuals in Florida have their jobs and livelihoods protected,” DeSantis said.

Gov. DeSantis continued on by saying businesses that force employees to be vaccinated should be held liable for any adverse reactions.

“Now you have these aggressive potential mandates, which could potentially lead to many people losing their jobs, some have already been terminated, and we need to provide protections,” said Gov. DeSantis

“If anyone has been forced to do an injection and has an adverse reaction, that business should be liable for that any damages.”

State Representative Randy Fine released a statement on Thursday as the news broke that a special session will be called by the governor.

“After coming to Brevard County and hearing the story of Sofia Steel, Governor DeSantis today is calling the legislature back into special session to invalidate the Federal vaccine mandate and criminalize school board members who refuse to follow the law. Sofia is seven years old, is non-verbal, and has Down’s Syndrome,” said Rep. Fine.

“With the full knowledge and direction of her School Board Member, Jennifer Jenkins — who refused to speak to Sofia’s father about it — school officials used nylon rope to repeatedly tie a mask to her face.”
