Due to increasing number of COVID patients
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Due to a steadily increasing number of COVID patients arriving at its four Brevard County hospitals, Health First has made the decision to temporarily stop all non-emergency surgeries beginning Monday, August 2.
“This proactive decision was made so we are prepared, and can provide additional space if needed, to care for patients in our facilities. This also provides an opportunity for clinical staff to temporarily support other critical areas,” said spokesman Lance Skelly.
“Our healthcare system will continue to care for patients and perform emergent, medically-necessary surgeries and procedures.”
Patients with scheduled elective procedures and surgeries will be contacted directly with further instructions.
Skelly said this temporary deferral is imperative for the safety and health of the community, and to prepare Health First’s facilities for the anticipated increase in COVID-19 cases.
“We thank our customers and community for understanding during this rapidly evolving situation, and Health First continues to urge everyone to vaccinate – for yourselves, your loved ones, and our community,” said Skelly.
