BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – John Thomas, a lifelong resident of Brevard County, officially declared his candidacy on Wednesday for the Brevard County School Board District 3 seat, which Jennifer Jenkins currently holds.

In a press release, Thomas said he has a commitment to positive transformations in our schools and aims to enhance discipline, empower our children, and revitalize the education system.

Thomas said his campaign will focus on addressing discipline challenges faced by teachers and administrators, aiming to create a safe and conducive learning environment for all students.

“I will advocate for early childhood education enhancement and effective discipline policies that prioritize prevention, intervention, and support,” said Thomas.

“By working closely with stakeholders, I aim to develop strategies that ensure a positive school climate where students feel safe, respected, and engaged. Restoring fundamental principles in the education system is paramount, and I believe in providing teachers and administrators with the necessary tools and support to address student behavior effectively.”

Thomas said that strengthening this support is crucial for teacher retention, as many qualified educators leave the profession due to lack of support. He also emphasizes the importance of recognizing their sacrifices and ensuring a supportive environment.

To provide students with the best education, Thomas prioritizes academic performance and achievement. His approach includes evidence-based instructional strategies, ongoing professional development for teachers, and access to modern resources and technologies.

“I will address achievement gaps and provide targeted support to students facing challenges, Said Thomas. “By fostering academic excellence and personalized learning, I will seek to empower every student to reach their full potential.”

Thomas emphasizes the need for a comprehensive and collaborative approach, working closely with educators, administrators, parents, students, and the community. He said he is committed to developing effective strategies, allocating resources wisely, and prioritizing the needs and success of students.

Thomas mentored youth as the Executive Director of the Greater Melbourne Police Athletic League and in roles as a high school administrator and head varsity football coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy.

In addition, Thomas served in various capacities at Florida Tech, eventually attaining the position of Associate Vice President.

While at Florida Tech, Thomas was responsible for initiating and overseeing the university’s first NCAA Division II football program. Thomas’s commitment to community service is evident through his tenure on the Melbourne City Council and the Airport Authority Board.

Currently serving as the CEO of the Home Builders and Contractors Association of Florida’s Space Coast, Thomas addresses critical needs such as vocational training opportunities for high school students.

“We aspire to make a genuine difference in the lives of our students, teachers, and community,” said Thomas. “Join us on this transformative journey, and together, we can shape a brighter future for our community’s youth for generations to come.”
