BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Police arrested Larron Phillip, 26, of Orlando, on Saturday for traffic and drug related offenses, as well as possessing a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, after allegedly fleeing from an attempted traffic stop and crashing first into another motorist then into a Cocoa Beach resident’s yard, damaging their fence.
Cocoa Beach Police Officer Matt Lafleur observed a black Acura, operated by Phillip, accelerate quickly southbound on S. Orlando Ave. from Minutemen Cswy. at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle turned west onto 5th St. then ran the stop sign, turning north onto S. Brevard Ave. Officer Lafleur attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled and ran the stop sign turning east onto S. 4th St.
The vehicle continued to flee through the stop sign at S. 4th St., collided with a motorist traveling south on S. Orlando Ave, and came to rest after crashing through the fence of a resident’s yard.
No serious injuries were reported from either party.
Phillip was taken into custody without further incident. In Philip’s possession were almost a half pound of cannabis, drug paraphernalia, a Glock handgun, and two fully loaded magazines.
Phillip was charged with Reckless Driving; Aggravated Fleeing with Property Damage; Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Sell; Possession of Cannabis over 20 Grams; Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition by a Convicted Felon; and subsequently transported to the Brevard County Jail, held on a No Bond status.
Phillip’s girlfriend had an individual come out to give her a ride back to Orlando. This individual, Linden Smith, 32, of Orlando, was also stopped by Cocoa Beach Police for excessive speed, did not possess a valid drivers license, and was on probation for drug related charges.
Smith was also taken into custody, charged with traffic offenses and Violation of Probation, then transported to the county jail.
