BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Members of the Melbourne Police Department were assigned to an operation to enforce speeding and other identified traffic violations in the area of the St. Johns Heritage Parkway within the City of Melbourne.
Assigned traffic officers utilized strict and selective enforcement to identify careless and aggressive vehicle operators committing speeding and improper passing violations.
As speeding is one of the major causes of crashes, deaths, and injuries on the County’s roadways, highly visible and well-publicized enforcement efforts focused on these identified crash-producing violators.
The primary goal of this detail was to reduce speeding-related crashes, injuries and deaths.
The statistic Melbourne Police Department was able to gather include:
■ 141 Citations were given and 21 warnings
■ Out of the 141 citations, 106 were written for speeding
■ Highest captured speed was 82 mph in a 45 mph zone
