BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted Operation “Traffic Havoc” during the month of March.

This ten-day traffic detail identified traffic violations specifically on U.S. Highway 1 at the intersections of New Haven Avenue and Strawbridge Avenue.

“The detail put a high focus on the following traffic violations, impaired/distracted driving, aggressive driving, safety belt protection, speeding, following too closely, red light violations, and pedestrian/bicycle safety,” said a MPD spokesperson.

“This campaign effort is to educate drivers to increase roadway safety and prevent vehicular crashes on the roadways in the City of Melbourne.”

Officials said the traffic unit conducted 248 traffic stops resulting in 42 written warnings and 259 issued citations.
