Over the decades, across innumerable miles, JC hauled everything from coal to logs and lumber, to Florida produce
BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Jimmy Curtiss “JC” Billings went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 20 at the age of 78. He is survived by his former spouse Sue Kundid, sisters Janie and Judy, his four children Mark, Ellen (Sissy), Jody, and Melinda (Missy), along with his twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Lonnie, mother Martha, and his brother JD.
JC was, by all accounts, a character – both cowboy and comedian. He was a humble man of terrific wit, a man who knew how to take his pleasures seriously. He loved NASCAR, drag races, zippy one-liners, and, in his own words, “having fun and not worrying too much.”
JC was born on June 16, 1943, in Thurmond, North Carolina. His first job was driving a truck for the town of Elkin before he was hired to make blankets for the Chatham Manufacturing Company. He later bought his own truck and began hauling loads for the construction of Interstate 77.
Over the decades, across innumerable miles, JC hauled everything from coal to logs and lumber, to Florida produce. Some claim he once hauled a giant snowball, from the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Elkin, in the backseat of his ’56 Pontiac convertible.
In 1963 JC married Sue Walker in Rhonda, North Carolina, and together they raised four children.
Those who knew JC recalls his profound love for cars and trucks, gospel and country music, Western films, and ice cream. They remember his signature look: a trucker hat, a button-down shirt half-open, a playful grin, and a hot cup of coffee in hand. He often kept a pack of cigarettes in his shirt pocket and a joke up his sleeve.
His death is a painful and tragic loss, yet there is comfort in knowing that JC lived a full and colorful life and is reunited with his parents and brother in heaven.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 11 a.m.
Graveside service to follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Titusville.
