Palm Bay Man Facing Possible Life Sentence After Conviction in Home Invasion of Disabled Seniors

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – A Brevard County jury found Steven Harrison Smith II guilty of Home Invasion Robbery and Burglary of a residence with a Battery, in a January 2, 2018, incident at the Palm Bay home of an elderly and disabled brother and sister.

The investigation concluded, shortly after 5:30 a.m. on January 2, Smith kicked in the front door of the victims’ house taking cash and credit cards from William and Barbara Raabe, while wearing a mask.

William, described in his 70’s and legally blind, tried to resist and was repeatedly pushed to the floor by Smith.

Palm Bay Police identified transactions on the victim’s credit card minutes after the burglary and positively identified Smith using William’s card at Walmart.

Authorities executed a warrant on Smith’s mobile phone provided additional evidence linking him to the crimes.

In the case prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Justin Keen and Greg Hansen, Smith was also convicted of Abuse of an Elderly Person or Disabled Adult; Criminal Use of Personal Information Person greater than 60; Solicitation to Tamper w/Evidence; and Unlawful Use of a Communication Device.

Smith could face a life sentence and mandatory 30 years in custody as a Prison Release Re-offender with enhancements as a Habitual Felony Offender, according to Todd Brown from the Office of the State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit.

Sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m., September 20, before Judge Stephen Koons at the Moore Justice Center in Viera.
