PETER CRANIS: March Brevard Tourist Development Tax Comes in at Record-Shattering $3.173 Million

first time TDC has broken $3 million mark in a single month, now the highest month in history

PETER CRANIS: March Tourist Development Tax (TDT) has come in at $3.173 million – not only a record for the month of March but the first time we have broken the $3 million mark in a single month and now the highest month in our history. This beat the previous two best months of March – 2022 at $2.797 million and 2019 at $2.095 million.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – March Tourist Development Tax (TDT) has come in at $3.173 million – not only a record for the month of March but the first time we have broken the $3 million mark in a single month and now the highest month in our history.

This beat the previous two best months of March – 2022 at $2.797 million and 2019 at $2.095 million.

This is 13 percent ahead of the previous March, which is typically the highest month of the year due to Spring Break. Year-to-date, we are at $13.6 million, which is 20 percent ahead of last year’s previous high of $11.345 million.

We also now hit two years, 24 straight months, of “best month for that month.” We think that may continue for another month or two, but it will be harder to continue through the summer months as last summer was very strong.

With this March number and our estimate for April, we believe we can say we had the best Spring Break ever. On a rolling 12-month view, we have collected over $25.5 million in the last 12 months.

Looking at TDT by type, hotels represented 65 percent of the total for the month, down from 66 percent last month, and vacation rentals were at 34 percent of TDT, up from 33 percent last month.

In terms of hotel/motel revenue by city, Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral were at 35 percent, and Melbourne and the Beaches were at 28 percent as a percentage of the total.

Looking ahead to April, which included both Easter and the Cocoa Beach Air Show, we believe we will most likely exceed last year’s high of $2.27 million, but it will be close.
