The Seibukan Dojo Began teaching traditional Japanese swordsmanship in 1993
BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Members from the Seibukan Dojo of Palm Bay recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of their school with a two week trip to Japan.
Members were personally invited to participate in the annual National Jidai Matsuri Festival which celebrates Japan’s history and heritage in the martial arts.
Students dressed in period correct armor and samurai clothing and paraded 2 miles through the streets of Machida Japan to the delight of thousands of onlookers.
The parade ended at a large park where demonstrations of traditional Japanese samurai arts were performed. This included Musketry, empty hand battle grappling, Batto do and mounted archery ( yabusame). The crowd was estimated at 7000 people for the event.
Members of the Seibukan Dojo spent two weeks training in the Japanese sword (Batto Do) as well as visiting numerous heritage sites including the graves of the 47 ronin, Yasukuni shrine, Sensoji Temple , Sengakuji Shrine, the Great Dai Buddha of Kamakura and many others.
Visits and training with several of the Senior instructors in Japan were part of the two week visit as well.
The Seibukan Dojo Began teaching traditional Japanese swordsmanship in April of 1993, and continues to teach twice weekly classes and is located at the Tony Rosa community center in Palm Bay.
No previous martial arts experience is required, and they accept students from age 15 and up. Prospective students are encouraged to come by and try two classes for free.
