BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The 20-year-old Titusville man who was critically injured in a Sept. 25 crash has died at Holmes Regional Medical Center, according to Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer Lt. Tara Crescenzi.
Lt. Crescenzi said the charges filed against Bryan Keith Holifield, 47, of Leaksville, Alabama, have been upgraded to DUI Manslaughter, and this crash remains under investigation.
The identity of the 20-year-old Titusville man has not yet been released by authorities.
Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in the early morning hours of Sunday, Sept. 25, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 and Dairy Road in Titusville.
According to Lt. Crescenzi, Troopers arrested Holifield, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Sequoia northbound in the southbound inside lane of U.S. Highway 1.
A 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by the 20-year-old man from Titusville, was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 1 south of Dairy Road in the inside lane.
“The Toyota Sequoia was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes,” said Lt. Crescenzi. “As a result, the front left of the Toyota struck the front left of the Mitsubishi. This caused the Toyota to overturn and come to final rest in the grass median.”
Holifield was transported to Parrish Medical Center with minor injuries, and the 47-year-old passenger in the Toyota was transported to Halifax Medical Center with serious injuries.
The 20-year-old man from Titusville was airlifted as a trauma alert with critical injuries to Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center. The passenger, an 18-year-old woman of Titusville, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
Holifield was originally arrested by Troopers for DUI – Serious bodily injury (three felony counts), DUI property damage/personal injury, DUI alcohol, and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
Lt. Crescenzi said after the arrest, Holifield provided a breath sample, and the results were 0.169. The legal limit in Florida is a 0.08.
Holifield was booked into the Brevard County Jail, and the crash remains under investigation.
