texting while driving will be a primary offense starting July 1
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Titusville Police say they are currently patrolling the city and advising motorists to put down their phones while driving.
On July 1, Florida will make texting while driving a primary traffic offense.
The new law will also ban the use of any handheld wireless communications devices in school and construction zones.
“Throughout our state, we’ve seen far too many accidents where passengers are killed or severely injured as a result of distracted drivers,” said Governor DeSantis.
“This bill gives law enforcement the ability to better enforce distractions behind the wheel. We cannot prevent all accidents on our roadways, but it is our hope that by taking action to address distractions today, we might be able to prevent a tragedy tomorrow.”
