UPDATE: Authorities Identify 23-Year-Old Woman Shot Dead in Melbourne, Suspect Arrested

Melbourne officers were responded to the scene of a deadly shooting on the 2800 block of Colbert Circle early Tuesday morning.

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The victim of a Tuesday shooting on the 2800 block of Colbert Circle has been identified as Sha’dayla Johnson, 23, of Melbourne, as the woman killed.

“From the onset of this investigation, the victim’s ex- boyfriend, 23-year old Carlos Lemont Jones, was identified as a person of interest who was possibly responsible for her death,” said Melbourne Police in a statement.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., Carlos Jones from West Melbourne entered the Palm Bay Police Department to turn himself in to police.

Melbourne detectives responded to the Palm Bay Police Department where Jones was ultimately arrested.

Jones is being charged with Premeditated First-Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

When police arrived around 7:48 a.m., they found the 23-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

Police officers and Melbourne Fire Rescue immediately provided her medical attention. However, despite their life-saving efforts, she did not survive.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released police.
