BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The 2022 Little League All-Star Tournament began over the weekend with games taking place throughout the Space Coast.
The Friday Night Locker Room’s Steve Wilson and Orville Susong bring you play-by-play action on Space Coast Daily TV from McLarty Stadium in Rockledge.
Over at Port St. John Little League’s Fay Park, the 10-12 Softball division saw Game 1 between Port St. John LL, the visiting team, and Mims LL, the home team.
Scoring was quiet until the top of the 3rd inning when PSJ’s Naveah Fuller had a lead-off walk and came in to score the game’s first run.
Peyton Cordova also scored for PSJ in the 3rd. In the bottom half of the 3rd inning, Mims’ Catcher, Abby Pramuk, had a lead-off walk and was able to work her way in for a Mims run, making the score 2-1 for PSJ after 3.
PSJ’s Naveah Fuller scored 2 more times in the game while Kahlia Fox and Mya Ulmer added 2 runs each in Port St. John’s 13-1 win in 5 innings.
Lillian Clark pitched the entire game for Port St. John and struck out 8, while Gabby Owens pitched for Mims into the 5th inning striking out 7 PSJ batters. Game 2 of this division will be between Mims LL and Merritt Island LL tomorrow with the last game scheduled for Monday Night between Merritt Island and Port St. John.
Meanwhile, the 8-10 Baseball division got started at Rockledge Little League’s McLarty Park with a best two-out-of-three series between Indian River City LL (visitors) and Merritt Island LL.
Merritt Island started the scoring when Benjamin Hintz had a lead-off single in the first and worked his way around the bases for the game’s initial run.
Merritt Island’s Rhett Arnold and Taylor Jarrett each scored in the second inning to make the score 0-3.
But, IRC battled back with runs in the 4th from Logan Dino and Colton Hill to narrow MI’s lead to 1. Indian River City went three up & three down in the top of the 5th, while Merritt Island added runs from Judah Alonzo and Lucas Dyer making it 3-5 going into the 6th inning.
IRC tied the score up in their half of the 6th after Colton Hill and Achton Perucca each walked and scored, followed by Drake Dehler hitting a double and scoring on a double from Mason Hilliard.
In the bottom of the 6th, Benjamin Hintz struck again with a single and eventually came around for the winning run in Merritt Island’s 5-6 win in 6 innings. Game 2 in this match-up is tomorrow afternoon.
