BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This week, members of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and others throughout the United States will take time to recognize the incredible employees working in Correctional facilities across our great nation in honor of National Correctional Officers Week.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan created National Correctional Officers Week to recognize these dedicated professionals who put their lives on the line every day while routinely performing difficult and dangerous tasks in order to protect the public from violent offenders.
The duties of the correctional deputies are more complex and stressful than most believe.

They are called upon to ensure the safety and well-being of inmates who have committed anything from property crimes to murder.

These men and women are also put into what can be seen as counseling roles as they interact with some of these inmates for months at a time.

They truly deserve our utmost respect, as their complex role is essential to keeping our community safe.
