BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police released a video on Wednesday after they assisted the Rockledge Police Department in arresting a suspect wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police say Charlie Squad K9 Officer Dan Rhoades and his partner K9 Maverick assisted Rockledge police after they requested a K9 assist after a suspect, who was reportedly armed with a knife, fled police in Rockledge.
Officer Rhoades and K9 Maverick responded and within a few minutes, K9 Maverick was able to locate the suspect hiding in a wooded area.
The suspect immediately surrendered.
“In a majority of cases like this, a suspect will surrender when a K9 is present,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department. “It’s one of the many reasons police K9s are vital tools in public safety. Another bad guy safely apprehended thanks in part to K9 Maverick and Officer Rhoades.”
