BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Rockledge Public Safety Director/Chief of Police Joe LaSata recently sat down with the Friday Night Locker Room’s Orville Susong and Steve Wilson to talk about public safety in and around the City of Rockledge.
A one-minute video clip of support recently surfaced on social media, with quite a few homes in a Rockledge neighborhood showing blue lights in support of law enforcement. There have been approximately 560,000 views of the video on Facebook.
LaSata said he was proud of the support his agency has received.
“Our officers really appreciate what the residents have done,” said LaSata. “We have been enjoying the support of our entire community for many years.”
LaSata said his agency continues to seek out the best and the brightest when it comes to new officers.
He said he looks for specific character traits when hiring new officers with integrity high on the list.
“The Rockledge Police Department is also one of the more diverse agencies in the area, with approximately 48 percent minority representation,” said LaSata.
The Rockledge Department of Public Safety, which encompasses police and fire, have had their challenging times during the pandemic but have survived, and, in some cases, even thrived.
The Department was recognized nationally for its program that had off-duty officers helping seniors and those with special needs by picking up and delivering their prescriptions.
The police department continues to do things the right way and the crime statistics reflect that.
Crime has dropped for the last eight years, and according to the Uniform Crime Report, from 2019 to 2020, Property Crime Incidents in Rockledge declined 10.28 percent.
