BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – State Representative Randy Fine took to Facebook in response to the Brevard County School Board’s decision to mandate masks for students and staff during a emergency meeting on Monday, which resulted in a 3-2 vote in favor of a mask mandate effective immediately.
Fine, a vocal opponent of mandated mask policies and mandated vaccines, called the decision by the board “unambiguously illegal, as stated by the School Board’s own attorney.”
Fine continued by detailing his decision years ago to pull his kids from BPS.
“Six years ago, I removed my son from Brevard Public Schools after the now-Superintendent told me, “You are not qualified to have an opinion about your child’s education.”
“Six years later, nothing has changed. Moments ago, the School Board officially ruled that parents are not qualified to have an opinion about whether their child should wear a mask at school.”
The State Representative of the 53rd district concluded by outlining a frequent request among those who call his office to pull their kids out of public schools and how to carry out the process
“Based on the calls I have received all day, many of you plan to do what I did six years ago. My office is happy to help you, if you call us at 321-409-2017. We can assist you with two things:
1) Obtaining a voucher to send your child to a private school, and in the case of a student with certain special needs, obtain a voucher to homeschool.
2) Enroll your child in Florida Virtual School.
Both options will eliminate your child’s funding from Brevard Public Schools, allowing parents to vote with their wallets.”
Fine also thanked BPS Board Members Katye Campbell and Matt Susin “for attempting to stand up for science, the law, and parents.”
