Do you think the entrepreneurial environment is growing in Nova Scotia? If so, what do you attribute this to?
I think the entrepreneurial environment is growing in Nova Scotia. There are a number of things contributing to this. We have an excellent community college system with programs designed for entrepreneurs at all stages of development, such as Kickstart/BDC and Startup Zone. The province also has Ignite NS which encourages entrepreneurship across the province by providing funding and support. Lastly, we have organizations like Innovacorp who provide mentorship and invest in high-potential small businesses throughout the province. All of these initiatives combined create a strong support system for entrepreneurs in Nova Scotia.

There are also a number of online resources available that explain how to start a business; for example, the Canada Revenue Agency provides information about what needs to be done when starting a new business.
What would you consider to be your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest personal accomplishment was completing my degree while working full-time at Irving Shipbuilding as Nova Scotia’s first female apprentice tradesperson. I am extremely proud of my accomplishments – I didn’t think it was possible for women to work in construction at that time, let alone complete an apprenticeship program and receive both Red Seal and Journeyman certifications before graduating from university. My greatest business accomplishment would be starting my own business, which has allowed me to work for myself and contribute to the local economy.
What are your future goals for your business?
My future goals for my business include expanding into new markets, such as the United States and Europe, and increasing sales. I also want to continue to grow my team and provide employment opportunities for people in the community. Lastly, I want to continue to contribute to the growth of the entrepreneurial environment in Nova Scotia.
