A 43-year-old Cocoa man died early this morning on US-1 after a vehicle struck him as a pedestrian near MacArthur Circle in Sharpes, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 43-year-old Cocoa man died early this morning on US-1 after a vehicle struck him as a pedestrian near MacArthur Circle in Sharpes, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Witnesses say the pedestrian was standing in the inside lane when the vehicle crashed into him around 6:05 a.m..

The driver of the 2017 Kia Sorento, identified as a 59-year-old man from Cocoa, attempted to swerve to avoid hitting the pedestrian but clipped him with the front right of his car.

The driver of the Kia ran off the roadway and remained at the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are still investigating the crash.
