Brevard veterinarian Dr. Phillip Lee Curry, a dedicated family man and compassionate healer of furry companions, passed away on October 17 in Orlando at the age of 78. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, including a tour in the Vietnam War. He earned an American Spirit Honor Medal in basic training and went on to work in military intelligence. n 2014, he opened the Animal Care Clinic of Titusville where he continued to care for the beloved pets of Brevard County, bringing comfort and healing to countless animals.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Local veterinarian Dr. Phillip Lee Curry, a dedicated family man and compassionate healer of furry companions, passed away on October 17 in Orlando at the age of 78.

Born on September 2, 1945, he is survived by his wife Rita, his children Elizabeth, Catherine, Jon, and Joseph, and his grandchildren Evelyn, Caleb, and Caley. He is also survived by his sister Merilee, and is pre-deceased by his brother Jon.

Phillip was born in Bloomington, Illinois, and grew up near Pittsburgh, PA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1970, including a tour in the Vietnam War. He earned an American Spirit Honor Medal in basic training and went on to work in military intelligence.

Following military service, he earned a BA from Illinois State University. He then pursued a career in veterinary medicine, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 1976.

Dr. Curry’s veterinary career spanned several states, including Kentucky and Illinois, before he settled in Florida in 1997.
He began working as a veterinarian in Titusville in 2006 at the SPCA, where he was Head Surgeon. His surgical skills and dedication were recognized when he was voted Best Veterinarian of Titusville in 2013.

In 2014, he opened the Animal Care Clinic of Titusville where he continued to care for the beloved pets of Brevard County, bringing comfort and healing to countless animals.

His love of animals did not stop at the clinic door. Over the course of his life, he had ten dogs, fifteen cats, two birds, a rabbit, and several hamsters. At his passing, his dog Oliver, cat Lily, and office cat Mew live on—all of them rescues.

His burial service will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 14 at 10 am. All are welcome to attend. The family is grateful for all expressions of sympathy.
