Armed Man Detained After Threatening Spectators Near Viera Regional Park Friday Night

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man with a gun threatening spectators at Viera Regional Park on Friday.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man with a gun threatening spectators at Viera Regional Park on Friday around 8 p.m.

The incident began as deputies responded to Borasco Drive, Viera, Florida, in reference to a disturbance where a man reportedly fired a handgun.

A woman reported that she was giving a ride to a male friend when he began acting paranoid and produced a firearm. The woman stopped the car and fled, at which time she advised she heard a shot.

As deputies were responding to that call, information was received that a man matching the description, was at Viera Regional Park threatening spectators with a gun.

Deputies responded to the park and found that the man had been struck by a vehicle while running through the parking lot.

The man was transported to the hospital where he is currently receiving medical care.

The incident is still under investigation. The identity of the man is not being released at this time and charges are pending, according to BCSO.
