BPS, Viera High School Celebrates Successful HBCU Information Session and Fair

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Viera High School was buzzing with excitement on Wednesday, February 7, as it played host to a successful Historically Black Colleges and Universities Information Session & Fair.

The event welcomed around 800 students, parents, educators, and community members to explore opportunities for higher education at prestigious HBCUs throughout the country.

The fair showcased a diverse array of HBCUs, offering attendees the chance to learn about their unique academic programs, campus culture, and scholarship opportunities.

Representatives from each institution provided valuable insights and guidance to eager students, empowering them to make informed decisions about their educational futures.

Hilary Poole, Director of Student, Staff and Community Engagement, noted “It was an inspiring event to see so many members of our community come together to partner with BPS and provide students with an opportunity to explore options after high school.”

Students also had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one conversations with school representatives, ask questions about admission requirements and financial aid options, and even receive on-the-spot admissions decisions from some participating colleges.

“The HBCU Fair was an incredible opportunity for our students to explore their college options and connect with representatives from some of the nation’s top institutions,” said Diamelia Christie, Instructional Coach, Secondary Curriculum and Instruction.

“We are committed to providing our students with the resources and support they need to pursue their academic and professional goals, and events like these play a crucial role in that mission.”

In addition to the valuable information provided by college representatives, the fair also featured presentations on topics such as college readiness, financial aid, and the benefits of attending a HBCU.

These presentations provided attendees with valuable insights and strategies to navigate the college admissions process successfully.

The HBCU Information Session & Fair has become an annual tradition for Brevard Public Schools, and we look forward to seeing what is in store for next year!
