BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Yep, things got heated up early this morning in West Melbourne when this guy, Peter Simpson, was observed by BCSO Deputies as he set fire to a vehicle in the parking lot of a local hotel.

The case started when Agent Dan Magill observed Simpson’s vehicle driving erratically and then quickly pulling into the parking lot of a nearby hotel.

Agent Magill then observed Simpson exiting his vehicle, putting on gloves and a face mask to conceal himself, and then walking between vehicles.

Now in the law enforcement circles we call that a clue, so Agent Magill continued to surveil Simpson, who he then observed crouching down near a white Nissan SUV and igniting the vehicle on fire.

Simpson then quickly got back into his own vehicle and began to flee the scene without his lights on, at a high rate of speed towards Highway 192.

As you might expect, K-9 Deputy Weimer and K-9 Cpl. Stewart were in the area waiting for Simpson at the exit by Highway 192, where they conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle Simpson was driving.

Simpson immediately complied with the verbal commands of the Deputies and gave up without incident.

Simpson was cuffed and stuffed and taken into custody at which time he was found to be in possession of a loaded Ruger firearm that was in his pocket. Also located inside the vehicle was the mask and gloves he used to conceal himself as well as was another firearm, a rifle, handcuffs, a baton, and pepper spray.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Simpson is a partial owner of the vehicle along with a female who was currently staying at the hotel.

Simpson refused to answer any questions and asked to speak with his attorney, so in an effort to help him find a phone to call his attorney, we took him to “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge!”

Simpson had room reservations at the lodge on a “No Bond” status for 2nd Degree Arson and Using/Concealing A Firearm During The Commission of a Felony.

Another great job by our Deputies for getting this guy off our streets and behind bars where he can’t do anything else stupid!

– Sheriff Wayne Ivey
