Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Shares Special Message for 4th of July

Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey

On this day as we celebrate the 4th of July and the Independence of our great nation, I am reminded of just how amazing and incredible it is to live in the United States of America.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On this day as we celebrate the 4th of July and the Independence of our great nation, I am reminded of just how amazing and incredible it is to live in the United States of America.

While the 4th is often looked upon as another long weekend to spend with family and friends and an opportunity for barbecues, boating, the beach and fireworks, this day is truly about so much more.

As you know, Independence Day is the anniversary of what makes America so awesome and why we are considered the greatest nation on earth.

On July 4th, 1776, our Independence was declared, an independence that was earned with the blood and sweat of our forefathers who fought against tyranny and oppression to earn our right to Independence.

While some may not fully understand the importance of independence, I promise you that to those who have never had the very freedoms and guarantees we often take for granted, it is everything.

It is one of the things they pray for each and every night and the reason they leave their homeland, and often their families, to journey to our country. It is something that many before us sacrificed their lives to protect and is the very foundation our great nation was built upon.

Today is so much more than just another holiday or barbecue, it is the very reason we can celebrate holidays and have barbecues. It is an opportunity for us as a nation to stand together in unity and say “this is America, the greatest country on the planet.”

It is a time for each of us to show just how patriotic we can be by proudly flying “Old Glory” in our yard and wearing everything we own that is Red, White, and Blue.

And more than anything else, it is a time to teach our children, grandchildren and the generations to come that this holiday is to celebrate who we are and why.

So as we celebrate the day with family and friends, let’s make it our priority to proudly display our patriotism in every way possible, so that generations to come will never forget what it means to be an American.

On behalf of our entire agency, we ask that you please take a moment today to thank and pray for those who have, and continue to protect our freedoms across the globe.

Have a very safe and happy 4th of July!
