Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – How many times do we have to tell you that if you are going to break the law you better not do it in Brevard County and if you run from us you are only going to go to jail tired and possibly with some stitches after one of our K-9’s takes a bite out of crime?
Well don’t take our word for it, just ask Cory Walden, who this past Monday night learned the hard way what happens when you break the law in Brevard County when he got the “Brevard County Experience Package” after one of our citizens “Saw Something and Said Something” about a dark colored Kia being involved in narcotics activity.
K9 Deputy Kenrick Walters was the first to arrive in the area where he observed the dark colored Kia fleeing at the sight of his marked patrol vehicle.
Deputy Edward Hamilton quickly arrived as back up and observed the Kia failing to come to a complete stop at the posted stop sign in the area of Sharpes Lake Avenue and Lake Superior Drive in Cocoa.
Deputy Hamilton also observed a white male wearing a grey shirt operating the vehicle, who was later identified as Cory Walden.
Deputy Hamilton initiated a traffic stop in his marked patrol vehicle utilizing his overhead emergency blue lights at which time the Kia being driven by Walden, fled at a high rate of speed, failing to stop again at a posted stop sign at Sharpes Lake and Canaveral Groves Boulevard.
The vehicle made a westbound turn at which time a subject was observed laying in the roadway, who was first believed to have been struck by the Kia. However, was later determined to have been an actual passenger in the Kia who knows what happens if you run from our Deputies.
This guy would rather jump out of a moving car than face the “Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Experience Package” you get when fleeing from justice in Brevard County.
Walden however wasn’t that smart as he continued to drive at an extremely high rate of speed along Canaveral Groves Boulevard making repeated turns until he came to a business at 401 Cross Road off of U.S. 1 where he intentionally crashed through a metal gate and then fled on foot from the scene of the crash.
After Walden ran, our team established a perimeter and subsequently located Walden hiding like a little baby near 170 Vanguard Circle, where he was given repeated verbal commands to surrender.
Walden refused to comply with the Deputies lawful orders so we sent Corporal Lee Roth and his K-9 Partner “Lefty” in to negotiate.
Well as you can see from the photo, “Lefty” is not that good at negotiating a peaceful surrender so he just went ahead and took a chunk out of Walden’s leg but also took his tennis shoe on the way out for a trophy.
The good news is “Lefty” didn’t hurt his teeth on the ankle monitor Walden was wearing because he is on Federal Probation and is also on felony state probation for other charges.
And to make matters worse, a search warrant of Walden’s residence produced small amounts of Methamphetamine and three loaded firearms.
Man, this system of letting dirtbags out of jail on probation is working so well don’t you think? Hell no its not working well and it’s putting citizens lives at risk every time they let one of these criminals back out on out streets.
When are we as a society going to stop this nonsense and keep criminals behind bars where they belong?
Oh well, at least “Lefty” and our team is doing their job as Walden took the ride to “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” for Violation of Felony Probation, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Felony Criminal Mischief, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and 3 Counts of Possession of Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Great Job “Lefty” and all of our team members on getting this guy ONCE AGAIN OFF OUR STREETS AND BEHIND BARS WHERE HE BELONGS!!
