teachers on average will see a 9.9% increase in their paychecks this year
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) came to a tentative contract agreement with the Brevard Federation of Teachers (BFT) union.
This agreement, with the addition of the millage supplement, means teachers on average will see a 9.9% increase in their paychecks this year.
2.5% of the increase will be from a salary increase with the rest coming from the millage, which was approved by taxpayers.
“This is a great day for our students, staff members, and families,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell. “The increase in compensation that we can provide to our instructional personnel is possible because of the generosity of our community. We are grateful for the trust and support the community has shown and we will work very hard to provide the best educational outcomes for our students. This is an investment in the future of Brevard County.”
The BPS compensation package also includes:
– Health insurance cost increases will be covered by the School Board meaning premiums will not increase for employees.
– Supplement payments have been increased by 30%.
– Bereavement leave has been increased to five days from three days.
– Parental leave has been increased to 30 days from 10 days.
– In-service participants will be paid their hourly rate instead of $15 an hour.
– Employee benefits begin on the 15th day of employment for a regular full-time teacher.
“This agreement reflects the school board’s dedication to our instructional staff,” said School Board Chairman Matt Susin.
“These are the people teaching our kids each day and we are proud that we have a compensation agreement that supports our Team BPS members.”
The contract still needs to be ratified by BFT members and approved by the School Board.
