BPS schools were selected among 73 Florida schools
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Purple Star schools Roosevelt Elementary, Sea Park Elementary and Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School were recently recognized by the Brevard Public Schools board, and was presented their Purple Star banners to hang proudly in each school.
The BPS schools are among 73 Florida schools awarded the Purple Star School of Distinction because of their support of military families.
In November, the three schools were announced as recipients of the Florida Purple Star School of Distinction Designation.
To be recognized, the schools are required to maintain a school military point of contact to serve as the central liaison for military families, a school webpage for military students and families that includes resources like academic planning, transition planning, and educational opportunities, a student-led transition program to assist military students coming into the school, staff professional development to identify and respond to the needs of military families and have five-percent open enrollment seats for military students and families.
Last year, Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High School, Holland Elementary School and Quest Elementary School were honored as Purple Star Schools of Distinction.
