Circuit Judge Sentences Brevard County Man to Life in Prison for First-Degree Murder

Circuit Judge Tesha Scolaro Ballou sentenced 20-year-old Luis Ramos Figuera to life in prison after a Brevard County Jury convicted him on September 14, 2023 for First-Degree Felony Murder with a Firearm, in connection with the shooting death of Daniel Ramos in 2020.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Circuit Judge Tesha Scolaro Ballou sentenced 20-year-old Luis Ramos Figuera to life in prison after a Brevard County Jury convicted him on September 14, 2023 for First-Degree Felony Murder with a Firearm, in connection with the shooting death of Daniel Ramos in 2020.

Judge Ballou also ordered Ramos Figuera to serve concurrent sentences of 30 years for Robbery with a Weapon, and 128.25 months for Tampering with Physical Evidence, along with his portion of restitution in the amount of $3,644.72.

In a 6-day trial with evidence presented by Assistant State Attorneys Jason Andersen and William Scheiner, the jury deliberated 3.5 hours before returning with the guilty verdicts.

On November 10, 2020, Ramos Figuera and Martaz Sugar were indicted by a Grand Jury in connection with the robbery and shooting death of 19-year-old Daniel Ramos, at the Mission Bay Apartments in Rockledge July 3rd, 2020.

On June 7, 2023, Sugar entered a plea of guilty to Second-Degree Murder with Firearm, Robbery with a Firearm, and Tampering with Evidence, and was sentenced by Judge Ballou to 30 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised probation.

In the coming days Ramos Figuera will be transferred to the Florida Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
