BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The City of Cocoa will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony at the Carl E. Anderson Park for the kick-off of the Fiske Blvd. and Broadmoor Acres drainage improvement project on February 6.

The event is set to begin at 9 a.m. The ceremony will include words from District 2 Councilman and Deputy Mayor, Lavander Hearn.

This significant community project was part of a grant awarded from FEMA as part of their Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

It will fund the installation of over 12,000 linear feet of roadside swales to improve drainage and street runoff. It will add over 5,000 cubic feet of water storage and over 2,000 linear feet of drainage pipe along Fiske Blvd., which will help reduce flooding by capturing and conveying stormwater along that corridor including the Broadmoor Acres community.

The drainage project runs from Peachtree Street on the north to Highland Drive and then over to the Bracco stormwater treatment area and includes streets in the Broadmoor Acres community.

“The Fiske Blvd. drainage project will make the area stronger and fix a flooding and drainage issue that has affected this area for some time. It’s a long-term solution to reduce future issues in this community,” said District 2 Councilman Lavander Hearn.
