BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team wrapped up the Citrus Conference title Monday night with a victory over Polk State College on the road.

The Titans, who are No. 1 in the state poll and No. 13 in the national poll, defeated the Polk State College Eagles 75-60.

It is the 11th conference title in 12 seasons for the men’s basketball team.

“I am so proud of this group, it is so hard to win games in this conference, and to be the conference champions is simply amazing,” Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said.

“This was the most difficult conference championship in my 14 seasons here. I am just so proud of this special group of guys.”

Polk State College jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first three minutes of the contest, but the Titans chipped away and tied the game 14-14 on a Carlos Cortijo basket with 7:30 remaining in the first half.

The Eagles fought back and led by five once again, but the defense stepped up for Eastern Florida State College and finished the half on a 14-3 run.

Carlos Cortijo scored six straight points and the Titans would later go on an 11-0 run to take a 21-point lead with seven minutes to go.

Cortijo had a season-high for the second straight game, leading the team with 28 points while Andrija Bukumirovic had 13 points and Emondrek Erkins-Ford and Matija Zuzic each finished with seven points.

Eastern Florida State College defeated Daytona State College twice in the regular season as both teams finished the conference season 14-2.

The Titans, who are 26-4 overall, will play in the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Championship beginning March 13 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.
