Hantzis won consolation bracket title at No. 2 singles

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s tennis team had a couple of champions in the consolation bracket at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament.

Sophomore Simona Karlsson Hantzis won the consolation bracket title at No. 2 singles, defeating Eastern Arizona’s Raquel Rodrigues 8-1 for the title.

After losing the first-round match, Karlsson won three straight games to clinch the victory. Karlsson won all three consolation bracket matches 8-1.

The No. 2 doubles team of Gloria Barcaro and Emma Sanchez also captured a consolation bracket title on Tuesday as the duo defeated Iowa Central’s Makenna Schaffner and Emma Semery 8-1 in the final. The duo won four straight matches to clinch the consolation win.

In the championship bracket, Luisa Renovales lost in the semifinals of the No. 6 singles 6-4, 6-4 to No. 3 seed Camila Neyra from Cowley College.

Barcaro will play for the consolation bracket title at No. 3 singles after defeating Coastal Alabama’s Taji Williams in Tuesday’s semifinals 8-2. Barcaro will play No. 5 seed Yazmin Barrios from ABAC Wednesday morning at 8 a.m.

Eastern Florida State College is in 10th place overall at the national tournament.
