Eastern Florida State College Women’s Volleyball Team Opens Season with Win Over St. Petersburg

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball team rebounded from a slow start to defeat St. Petersburg Friday evening at Titan Field House.

The 18th-ranked Titans picked up the win in straight sets, 28-26, 25-20, and 25-15 to improve to 1-0.

St. Petersburg won seven of the first eight points and led throughout the first set and looked like they would win the first set as they led 24-21. But freshman Dominae Jordan had two kills and Sophia Knowles had one as well as the Titans rallied back to tie things 24-24.

The two teams would trade points until the Titans finally took a 27-26 lead and Sofia Kamke finished off the win with a kill.

The Titans would keep the momentum in the second set and built a six-point lead on a Flavia Romanelli kill, giving the Titans a 16-10 lead. St. Petersburg cut the lead to one, 21-20 but after a Titans point Gaia Riedmuller came in and served out the match as the Titans won the second set 25-20.

The third set once again saw the Titans score six straight point to lead 8-2 and would roll to a 24-15 win to pick up their first win of the season.

Eastern Florida State College (1-0) will play Florida Tech in an exhibition match on Saturday afternoon before playing No. 14 Monroe College at Titan Field House Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
