second time receiving Region 8 Player of the Week honors
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball player Amelia Hassett has been named the NJCAA Region 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The sophomore forward from Albury New South Wales, Australia had three big games to lead the Titans to a 3-0 week in the Citrus Conference.
Hassett opened the week with 26 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the 3-point line and grabbed 11 rebounds in a win against Santa Fe.
Then on Wednesday, she had 23 points and 20 rebounds in a win over Hillsborough Community College. Hassett wrapped up the week with 32 points and 16 rebounds against Miami Dade College. She averaged 27 points, 15.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in the three games.
For the season, Hassett is averaging 19.6 points and 14.5 rebounds per game which both rank first in Region 8.
The 14.5 rebounds per game is first in Region 8 and second among NJCAA Division 1 players in the nation. She has recorded seven straight double-doubles and has nine on the season.
It is the second time this season that Hassett has been named the NJCAA Region 8 Player of the Week.
