EFSC Women’s Basketball Team Beats Miami Dade, Wins Seventh Straight

The Eastern Florida State College women’s basketball team won its seventh straight game on Saturday, heading into the holiday break 4-0 in the Citrus Conference. The No. 22 ranked Titans defeated Miami Dade College 84-67 at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus.

Sophomore Amelia Hassett continued to dominate for the Titans, recording 32 points and grabbing 16 rebounds in the win.

Eastern Florida State College had a 10-0 run early in the first quarter backed by some timely baskets from Andrea Chiquemba and Esra Sen and then a 3-pointer from Hassett to jump out to a 12-3 lead. The Titans would finish the first quarter up 10, 22-12.

They would extend the lead in the second quarter, scoring 11 of the first 13 points of the second quarter behind a couple of 3-pointers by Mackenzie Auton off the bench. 

Up 48-31 at halftime, the Titans would come out sluggish in the third quarter and Miami Dade would cut the lead to 11 as Sharks outscored the Titans 17-11 in the third quarter.

Miami Dade’s Shameir Quimby would cut the Titans lead to two with a basket and foul, making the free throw to make it a two-point game at 59-57 with 8:32 remaining. Hassett would score and get fouled to complete a three-point play and then hit a 3-pointer to put the lead back to 10. Esra Sen would score and get fouled, making the free throw to start a 7-0 run that put the game away for the Titans. 

Quimby led the Sharks with 21 points.

Hassett recorded her seventh straight double-double and ninth of the season. Teammates Kristiana Kulackovska and Jaidyn Koerdt each finished with 10 points and Ashleigh Battle had seven assists to go with five rebounds and two points.

Eastern Florida State College (8-3, 4-0) will host DME on Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. before returning to Citrus Conference action Saturday, Jan. 6 at home against Florida SouthWestern at 2 p.m.
