BREVARD COUNTY • MIMS, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are still investigating a fatal crash that involved a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle in which a 46-year-old man from Merritt Island was killed.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced deceased at the scene and Troopers are still investigating the crash that occurred Saturday night at approximately 9:03 p.m.
According to FHP Lieutenant Tara Crescenzi, the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of I-95 in the area of mile marker 223 (State Road 46) in Mims.
Lt. Crescenzi said the crash involves five vehicles, including a 2012 Kia Forte, 2017 Harley Davidson FLHTK, 2020 Nissan Rogue, 2023 Dodge Challenger, and 2022 Harley Davidson FXLRS.
All five vehicles were traveling southbound on I-95 north of State Road 46.
“Preliminary evidence shows the 2012 Kia Forte was traveling southbound on I-95 in the inside lane,” said Lt. Crescenzi. “The d river failed to maintain the inside lane, ran off the roadway left, and struck the center median guardrail. The Kia Forte then rotated and came to final rest blocking the southbound lanes of I-95 facing west.”
According to Lt. Crescenzi, the other four vehicles became involved in a collision due to the Kia blocking the southbound lane of I-95. The sequence of events that lead to these series of collisions are still under investigation.
There was roadblock for the southbound lanes of I-95 until 3:06 a.m.
