FHP: Pedestrian Laying in Lane of Banana River Drive on Merritt Island Struck and Killed

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV in Merritt Island, according to Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Migdalisis Garcia. According to Trooper Garcia, the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Friday night on Banana River Drive and Central Avenue. The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man, was laying on the northbound lane of Banana River Drive.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA –  A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV in Merritt Island, according to
Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Migdalisis Garcia.

According to Trooper Garcia, the incident happened around 10 p.m. on Friday night on Banana River Drive and Central Avenue.

The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man, was laying on the northbound lane of Banana River Drive.

“A 2017 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling northbound on Banana River Drive approaching Central Avenue as the pedestrian was laying in the northbound lane of Banana River Drive, in the direct path of the Chevrolet Traverse,” said Trooper Garcia in a release.

“As a result, the Traverse collided with pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased on the scene.”

The 57-year-old Traverse driver was not injured and remained at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation.
